Oyster Bay, NY (November 3, 2026) - The Theodore Roosevelt Association (TRA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard A. Santangelo as its new Director of Development, following a nationwide search led by the executive search firm at Harris Rand Lusk.
Richard brings more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience in fundraising, strategic partnerships, environmental education, and organizational development.
Of particular significance to the TRA is Richard’s previous work with the National Audubon Society as Program Manager of the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary & Audubon Center in Oyster Bay, New York, where he expanded environmental education programs across Long Island, strengthened community partnerships, and advanced conservation initiatives. His leadership earned him the National Audubon Society's Conservation Team of the Year Award in 2013.
Most recently, Richard served as Fundraising Manager for Advocates for Children of New Jersey, where he helped drive significant fundraising growth, expand donor engagement, and strengthen philanthropic partnerships. He previously spent nearly a decade with the National Audubon Society leading conservation education initiatives throughout New York City.
"We are excited to welcome Richard to the TRA," said Chris Cosentino, Executive Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Association. "Rich will help take the TRA to new heights by strengthening our development efforts and expanding our reach. His appointment reflects our commitment to investing in the TRA’s future, growing our programs and resources, and inspiring the next generation through Theodore Roosevelt’s legacy."
As Director of Development, Richard will lead the TRA's fundraising strategy, cultivate relationships with members, donors, and corporate partners, and secure new opportunities to support the TRA's mission and programs across the country and around the world.
"Having led education programs right here in Oyster Bay at the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center and guided bird walks at Sagamore Hill, joining the Theodore Roosevelt Association feels like a true homecoming,” said Richard Santangelo. “I am honored to step into this role and look forward to working alongside our dedicated community of supporters to ensure TR’s extraordinary legacy continues to inspire and shape the next generation of conservation champions and civic leaders."
Please join us in welcoming Richard to the Theodore Roosevelt Association as we continue preserving and promoting the life and legacy of President Theodore Roosevelt for future generations.
