Theodore Roosevelt Association Contributes $1,500 to TR Statue Fund

On Sunday, August 16th,2026 the Theodore Roosevelt Association (TRA) continued its commitment to preserving Theodore Roosevelt’s legacy with a $1,500 contribution to the TR Statue Fund in Oyster Bay, New York. TRA Executive Director Chris Cosentino presented the check to Joseph Reilly of the TR Statue Fund at the site of Oyster Bay’s equestrian statue of Theodore Roosevelt.

TRA Contributes $1,500 to TR Statue Fund Located near Theodore Roosevelt’s Sagamore Hill home, the approximately 12-foot-tall statue depicts TR as the “Rough Rider” on horseback, welcoming visitors to his beloved Oyster Bay. It was cast from an original mold by renowned sculptor Alexander Phimister Proctor (1860–1950).

The statue was dedicated on October 29, 2005, as the Centennial Project of the Rotary Club of Oyster Bay, and re-dedicated at its permanent site by the TR Statue Fund on October 30, 2010.

The landscaped triangle surrounding the statue also preserves an important memorial tradition. Its design incorporates five trees honoring local men who lost their lives in World War I, including TR’s youngest son, Quentin Roosevelt, a U.S. pursuit pilot who was shot down and killed over France on July 14, 1918.

The nonprofit TR Statue Fund maintains the statue, stone base, and surrounding landscaping and provides insurance coverage for the property. The TRA’s $1,500 contribution will help support this continuing stewardship.

Standing at the entrance to the hamlet, the Rough Rider statue is both a tribute to Theodore Roosevelt and a reminder of the Roosevelt family’s enduring connection to Oyster Bay.
