Theodore Roosevelt Association Partners with Long Island Warriors for Summer Shootout, Collecting More Than 100 Teddy Bears for Children at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital

The Theodore Roosevelt Association (TRA) proudly partnered with the Long Island Warriors Veteran Hockey Team during this past weekend’s LI Warriors Summer Shootout, bringing together hockey, community, and service in support of children at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. The event was held at Northwell Health Ice Center, the practice facility of the NHL’s New York Islanders.
One of the weekend’s most memorable moments came during the youth hockey game on Saturday, August 8th. After the first goal was scored, fans celebrated by tossing more than 100 teddy bears onto the ice in support of the Theodore Roosevelt Association’s Teddy Bears for Kids Program.
The bears were collected following the game and will be delivered to children at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, continuing a TRA tradition that has brought comfort to young patients and their families for four decades.
“Seeing more than 100 teddy bears come flying onto the ice was an incredible moment, but what makes it truly special is knowing where those bears are going next,” said Chris Cosentino, Executive Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Association. “The Long Island Warriors have built something truly special through the Summer Shootout, and we are proud to partner with an organization that so strongly reflects Theodore Roosevelt’s belief in service to others.”
Since 1986, the Theodore Roosevelt Association’s Teddy Bears for Kids Program has delivered more than 90,000 teddy bears to children in hospitals across the United States. The program carries forward a tradition of compassion and service inspired by Theodore Roosevelt and the enduring story of the teddy bear that bears his name.
The TRA extends its gratitude to the Long Island Warriors for their partnership and commitment to making the Summer Shootout a success. The Association also thanks LI Sports Network for welcoming TRA Executive Director Chris Cosentino to the broadcast throughout Saturday’s game and providing an opportunity to share the story and mission of the Teddy Bears for Kids Program with viewers.
The partnership will continue this fall when the Theodore Roosevelt Association honors the Long Island Warriors for their service to others.
On September 14, 2026, at the Big Stick Golf Outing, the Long Island Warriors will receive the Theodore Roosevelt Award in recognition of their outstanding commitment to community, service, and advocacy.
The honor reflects the values shared by the Theodore Roosevelt Association and the Long Island Warriors: service, citizenship, leadership, and a commitment to strengthening the communities they serve.
