Theodore Roosevelt Association Big Stick Golf Outing to Honor Long Island Warriors Veterans Hockey Team
July 20, 2026
The Theodore Roosevelt Association (TRA), in partnership with the Nassau County Lions Youth Hockey Program, has announced that the Long Island Warriors Veterans Hockey Team will be honored during the inaugural Big Stick Golf Outing, presented by New York Life, on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the Town of Oyster Bay Golf Course.
The recognition celebrates the Long Island Warriors' unwavering commitment to community, service, and advocacy—values that closely reflect Theodore Roosevelt's enduring legacy.
The Long Island Warriors is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization that provides military veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, and their families with the opportunity to build camaraderie through the game of hockey. More than a team, the Warriors serve as a support network that helps veterans transition to civilian life while promoting physical wellness, mental health, and lifelong connections. Their mission is built around three core principles:
Community – fostering camaraderie and strengthening veteran engagement through hockey.
Service – connecting veterans with resources, organizing volunteer efforts, and giving back through community events and fundraising.
Advocacy – raising awareness of the challenges facing today's veterans and working to improve the care and support they receive.
"The Long Island Warriors embody the very ideals Theodore Roosevelt championed throughout his life—service above self, perseverance in the face of adversity, and a commitment to improving the lives of others," said Chris Cosentino, Executive Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Association. "We are proud to recognize an organization that continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans and throughout our Long Island community."
As part of the partnership, the Theodore Roosevelt Association will also participate in the 6th Annual Long Island Warriors Summer Shootout on Saturday, August 8, at 3:00 p.m. at Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, NY. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase teddy bears and toss them onto the ice, with all collected bears donated to a local children's hospital through the Theodore Roosevelt Association's Teddy Bears for Kids program, bringing comfort to children in need while supporting both organizations' shared commitment to community service. Since 1986, the TRA’s Teddy Bears for Kids program has delivered more than 90,000 teddy bears to children in hospitals across the country.
The Big Stick Golf Outing will feature 18 Theodore Roosevelt-themed golf holes, each celebrating a different chapter of the 26th President's remarkable life, along with breakfast, lunch, dinner, beverages, raffles, auctions, awards, and special guests. Proceeds from the event will support Theodore Roosevelt Association programs benefiting youth leadership, military, law enforcement, conservation, and scholarships, while also supporting the Nassau County Lions Youth Hockey Program.
