Rob McCutcheon Receives National War College's Theodore Roosevelt Award

June 24, 2026

Rob McCutcheon, a career Foreign Service Officer with the U.S. Department of State, was presented with the Theodore Roosevelt Award at the National War College in Washington, D.C., on Friday, June 5, 2026.

The Theodore Roosevelt Award is the National War College's highest student honor and is awarded annually to a single graduate selected from a class of approximately 190 military officers, diplomats, federal officials, and international fellows. The award recognizes the student whose overall contributions and achievements in scholarship, writing, seminar participation, athletic involvement, and peer leadership distinguish them as the institution's top graduate.

McCutcheon earned a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College in 2026 and was recognized as a Distinguished Graduate. His selection for the Theodore Roosevelt Award reflects not only exceptional academic achievement but also sustained excellence in leadership and service throughout the academic year.

Representing the Theodore Roosevelt Association at the ceremony were Executive Director Chris Cosentino and Trustee Robert "Jaimie" J. Orr, who joined National War College leadership, faculty, and classmates in recognizing McCutcheon's achievements.

"On behalf of the Theodore Roosevelt Association, I congratulate Rob McCutcheon on this extraordinary honor," said Chris Cosentino, Executive Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Association. "The Theodore Roosevelt Award recognizes the very best of the National War College's graduating class—an individual who exemplifies intellectual excellence, leadership, service, and character. Rob's distinguished record of public service and his accomplishments at the National War College make him a worthy recipient of an award bearing Theodore Roosevelt's name. We are also deeply grateful to the National War College for its longstanding partnership with the Theodore Roosevelt Association and for its continued commitment to developing the next generation of national security leaders."

A career Foreign Service Officer specializing in the Middle East, he previously served as the Foreign Policy Advisor (POLAD) to the Commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees all U.S. military forces in the Middle East and Central Asia. In that role, he advised senior military leadership on diplomatic and strategic issues across the region.

Over the course of his distinguished diplomatic career, McCutcheon has served in Pakistan, Lebanon, Cuba, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates. He has also worked extensively on foreign affairs issues involving Syria and Mexico. Fluent in Spanish, Arabic, and Farsi, he has built a reputation for strategic insight, regional expertise, and collaborative leadership.

Prior to joining the Foreign Service, McCutcheon worked on public policy issues in Washington, D.C. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, where he studied international politics and security.

The Theodore Roosevelt Award commemorates the leadership ideals exemplified by President Theodore Roosevelt, recognizing graduates who demonstrate excellence in intellect, character, service, and leadership. McCutcheon's career of public service and his accomplishments at the National War College embody those enduring principles.
