Theodore Roosevelt Association Visits PS70Q – The Joseph Petrosino School

On March 13th, the Theodore Roosevelt Association was honored to participate in this year’s College & Career Awareness Day at PS70Q The Lieutenant Joseph Petrosino School in Queens, New York.

TRA Executive Director Chris Cosentino spent the morning speaking with several classes about the life and legacy of Theodore Roosevelt, as well as the ongoing mission of the TRA. Students engaged thoughtfully, asking insightful questions and showing genuine enthusiasm as they explored how Roosevelt’s values—leadership, service, and courage—remain relevant today.

The visit carried special historical significance. On October 19, 1883, Joseph Petrosino joined the New York Police Department, where he would later form a friendship with Theodore Roosevelt during TR’s tenure as a member of the Board of Police Commissioners. Upon learning of Petrosino’s tragic death, Theodore Roosevelt reflected, “Petrosino was a great man and a good man. I knew him for years, and he did not know the name of fear.”

The Theodore Roosevelt Association extends its sincere thanks to PS70Q for the invitation and for fostering an environment that encourages students to think deeply about their futures and their role in public service. We are proud to help carry forward Theodore Roosevelt’s enduring spirit of lifelong learning and civic responsibility.
