Theodore Roosevelt Association Participates in Social Studies Night at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School in Oyster Bay
April 14, 2026
Oyster Bay, NY -
The Theodore Roosevelt Association (TRA) was proud to take part in
Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School’s annual
Social Studies Night in Oyster Bay on March 19th, an evening that brought the school community together in the spirit of exploration, discovery, and civic engagement - values close to Theodore Roosevelt’s heart.
Organized by
Principal Devra Small and Elementary Curriculum Associate Jennifer Capogna, the event transformed the school into a lively hub of hands-on learning. Teachers from multiple grade levels guided families through activity stations designed to bring social studies to life. Young students tested their geography skills with a large U.S. map puzzle, created teddy bears from washcloths, and examined natural artifacts like horseshoe crab shells, birds’ nests, and pinecones. The activities encouraged curiosity and creativity while connecting students to both local history and the natural world—a hallmark of TR’s enduring legacy.
Students from
Oyster Bay High School’s Rho Kappa Honor Society also joined in, assisting with stations and helping the evening run smoothly. Music filled the halls as younger students gathered to sing patriotic songs, culminating in a special viewing of Taylor Swift performing the national anthem.
Thanks to the generosity of the staff and families in attendance, the TRA collected donations to benefit Teddy Bears for Kids. Since 1986, the TRA’s
Teddy Bears for Kids program has delivered more than 90,000 Teddy Bears to children receiving treatment in hospitals across the country. “It was wonderful to see the next generation learning about Theodore Roosevelt’s values of citizenship and compassion in such an engaging way. The energy, enthusiasm, and sense of community here in Oyster Bay truly reflect the spirit of TR,” said
TRA Executive Director Chris Cosentino.
The Theodore Roosevelt Association was honored to see Theodore Roosevelt’s ideals come alive through the creativity and collaboration of the students, families, and educators who carry forward his legacy each day in the town he loved.
