In October 2025, the Tau-Iota Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Farmingdale State College launched a meaningful partnership with the Theodore Roosevelt Association (TRA) in support of the annual Homeward Bound for the Holidays campaign. The initiative grew from a meeting between TRA Police Program Lead Edward Scali, a retired NYPD Gang Sergeant, and chapter members, igniting a shared commitment to service that soon evolved into a series of creative and engaging fundraising activities.

In the months that followed, the brothers organized an inter-fraternity soccer match, a multi-university touch football game, merchandise sales, and direct outreach efforts. Collectively, these initiatives generated an impressive $2,100, which the chapter proudly presented to TRA Executive Director Chris Cosentino on February 5, 2026, at Sagamore Hill—the historic home of President Theodore Roosevelt.

Building on their fundraising achievements, the brothers of Kappa Sigma also co-hosted a heartwarming teddy bear donation event with the TRA and Engine and Hose Company No. 5 of the Massapequa Fire Department. The event brought joy to dozens of students at Nassau BOCES Carman’s Road School, each of whom received a teddy bear to brighten their day.

“The Theodore Roosevelt Association deeply appreciates the dedication, enthusiasm, and community spirit shown by the brothers of Kappa Sigma,” said Chris Cosentino, Executive Director of the Theodore Roosevelt Association. “Their example serves as an inspiration to others to support TRA programs that strengthen communities and honor the spirit of service President Roosevelt so valued.”

The TRA looks forward to continuing this partnership and proudly commend the brothers of Kappa Sigma for their remarkable efforts to help sailors aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) reunite with their families during the holiday season. Through the Theodore Roosevelt Association’s Homeward Bound for the Holidays program, sailors serving on the USS Theodore Roosevelt receive assistance with travel costs so they can spend the holidays at home with their loved ones.
