David B. Woolner is Professor of History and the Judy and Peter Blum Kovler Foundation Fellow of Roosevelt Studies, at Marist University, Senior Fellow and Resident Historian of the Roosevelt Institute, and Senior Fellow of the Center for Civic Engagement at Bard College. He is the author of The Last 100 Days: FDR at War and at Peace (Basic Books, 2017), and is editor/co-editor of five books, including Progressivism in America: Past Present and Future (Oxford University Press 2016), FDR’s World: War, Peace and Legacies (Palgrave, 2008), and FDR the Vatican, and the Roman Catholic Church in America (Palgrave, 2003).

A frequent commentator on the links between the past and the present, his media appearances include interviews with CNN, the BBC, the History Channel, NPR, the CBC, the New York Times, Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal. His reviews and op-ed pieces have appeared in TIME, The Washington Post, The Nation, Huffington Post, The Irish Times and other publications. He served as historical advisor to the Ken Burns films The Roosevelts: An Intimate History and The US and the Holocaust and for numerous special exhibitions at the FDR Presidential Library and Museum. He is a member of the Scholarly Board of the Gilder Lehrman Institute for American History; the Editorial Board of the International History Review; the Advisory Group to the Churchill Archives Project; and is advisor to the FDR Library’s Morgenthau Holocaust Collections Project. He is the editor of the Palgrave Macmillan series, “The World of the Roosevelts,” and has been a member of the faculty of the Bard Prison Initiative since 2011.

Dr. Woolner was recently named a Fulbright Specialist for the years 2021-2025 by the US Department of State’s Bureau for Educational and Cultural Affairs, and is the recipient of the Fulbright Denmark Distinguished Scholar Award in American Studies, University of Southern Denmark, (2024-2024); the Mary Ball Washington Chair in American History, University College Dublin (2016-2017); the Roosevelt Fellowship, University College Roosevelt, Middleburg, the Netherlands, (Spring 2016); Fulbright Research Chair, the Roosevelt Study Center, Middleburg, the Netherlands (Fall 2010) and an Archives By-Fellowship, Churchill College, Cambridge University, (Fall 2007).
