In late 2015, Detective Edmundo Lujan, an experienced officer in the Dallas Police Department Financial Investigative Unit, was serving as a security presence at a local club when an altercation with a customer led to an unspeakable act of violence. The enraged patron confronted Detective Lujan in the parking lot and ran over him with his car, dragging him under the chassis. Detective Lujan sustained the following injuries: laceration to his head almost causing his scalping, a cracked skull, a partially detached ear, twelve broken teeth, a severed tongue, broken vertebrae in his neck, a broken sternum, broken ribs, a dislocated hip, a broken leg, a broken ankle, torn ligaments in his foot and a torn Achilles tendon. Because of his head injuries, he suffered short-term memory loss and loss of cognitive skills, as well.
Within a few weeks after his injuries, Detective Lujan began therapy and was tenacious in the process, doing everything in his power to recover and return to the job he loves.
On May 17, 2016, Detective Lujan returned to the Financial Investigations Unit on a part-time basis and by August of 2016 he had progressed to the point that he was able to return to full duty. His tenacity and determination serve as an inspiration to his fellow officers.
