USS Theodore Roosevelt Friends and Family Cruise 2017

 You and your family and friends are cordially invited to a Friends and Family Cruise offered to the members of the Theodore Roosevelt Association by USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) to be held on Monday, June 19th.

The Friends and Family Cruise is a naval tradition either before or after a long deployment, offering the crew members the opportunity to show off their ship to their loved ones. As you might imagine, they put on a great show. Captain Craig Clapperton has kindly invited members of the TRA to participate in this wonderful event. You have never seen a show like this! It will be an all-day event, with a dinner the evening before. The USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) will sail early in the morning from her home port at the San Diego Naval Base in California and return in the evening. Registrations must be received by Friday, May 19th. Participation is limited to TRA members and their families. Non-TRA Members wishing to participate must join the TRA prior to registering for this event.

We strongly recommend that your group arrive by Sunday evening! This will be our host hotel for dinner the evening before the cruise and from where transportation to the aircraft carrier will leave at 5:00 AM Monday morning. Registration packets will be available on Sunday and early Monday morning at the hotel. You’ll need your name badge to board the bus and ship. Please make your own hotel reservations. You can call our host hotel direct at (619) 543-9000 or book online at their web site at www.sandiegomissionvalley.hilton.com. There are also several other hotels in the area known as “San Diego Mission Valley” that can easily be found online.

The Theodore Roosevelt Association has invited the Captain and members of his crew to join us for dinner on Sunday evening at the hotel.

Two Options for Dinner on Sunday Evening

    • Special Dinner showcasing California's Finest
      This exclusive dinner will highlight some of California's finest wines and local produce prepared by a superb chef. Cocktail hour at 6:00 PM followed by dinner at 7:00 pm. Jackets required.
    • Welcome Celebration Dinner
      Come celebrate the ship's preparations for departure and a job well done. There will be a 6:00 pm cocktail hour with cash bar, followed by dinner at 7:00 PM. Business casual dress; no jackets required.

      Schedule for Family Cruise Day, Monday, June 19th

      The buses will leave from the Hilton San Diego Mission Hotel starting at 4:45 AM for the aircraft carrier. The last bus will leave promptly at 5:15 AM. This is an all-day event. The ship will return in the early evening and bus transportation will be provided back to the hotel. You must be on the bus in order to join the cruise. No personal cars will be able to enter the base. Note: If you miss the bus, you will miss the cruise.

      Cruise Details and Restrictions

      Guests must be US Citizens and at least 8 years old. All guests must bring proof of citizenship which can be a valid driver’s license, passport or copy of birth certificate. No sandals or flip flops. Please wear comfortable clothing. We recommend hats, sunscreen and jackets for cooler weather. TRA Guests will be divided into tour groups of 15-20 each with crew member guides. Three light meals on board will be provided. Many exciting events are being planned. Allowing members of the Theodore Roosevelt Association to participate in the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) Friends and Family Day Cruise on June 19, 2017 does not constitute an endorsement of the Theodore Roosevelt Association by the Department of the Navy or the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71).

      The Theodore Roosevelt Association is not charging for the privilege of riding onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71). Participation in the Friends and Family Day Cruise entails a cost of $25 to help cover a portion of the expenses in running the event. In return, you will receive onboard the ship food, drinks, a drawstring bag, water bottle and ID badge w/lanyard. This cost is not connected with Theodore Roosevelt Association fundraising or membership dues.
