Volunteering at Sagamore Hill

The year 2001 puts us squarely in the middle of what has come to be known as the "Decade of the Centennials for Theodore Roosevelt."

100 years ago, TR was sworn in as Vice-President, and later as President of the United States.

The Friends of Sagamore Hill is proud to be a part of this celebration, and we find ourselves with a full calendar of events for the first part of this year.

TR's Medal of Honor side by side
with that of TR JR during April!

President Clinton posthumously awarded Theodore Roosevelt the Medal of Honor on January 16, 2001 at the White House.
Eventually the Roosevelt Family will be donating the Medal back to the White House to permanently reside in the Roosevelt Room, on the mantel near TR's Nobel Peace Prize celebrating strength in war and peace.
The Roosevelt's
have agreed to loan the Medal to Sagamore Hill NHS for public viewing during much of the month of April.

The medal of Brigadier General Theodore Roosevelt, Jr was displayed next to that of his father so that the public might be able to pay respects to bravery of this
father and son.

Superintendent Fong.

We started the new year by welcoming Ms. Lorenza Fong as our new site superintendent for Sagamore Hill National Historic Site. She comes to us with outstanding credentials, and we look forward to working with her for years to come!

"I tell you, Kermit, it was great comfort to feel, all during the last days when affairs looked doubtful, that no matter how things came out the really important thing was the lovely life I have with Mother and with you children, and that compared to this home life everything else was of very small importance from the stand point of happiness."
