Theodore Roosevelt Police Awardee - Sr. Cpl. Thomas Cicio (1999)

Each year, the local TRA-Texas Chapter recognizes a Dallas Police officer who has overcome a life-threatening injury, illness or other overwhelming obstacle and who demonstrates exceptional courage, determination and perseverance while overcoming the adversity, ultimately returning to exemplary service to the Department.

In honor of the 125th anniversary of Theodore Roosevelt's birth and of his lifelong admiration for police officers, the TRA introduced the first Theodore Roosevelt Association Police Award in the New York City Police Department in 1983. Roosevelt served as President of the Board of Police Commissioners in New York City from May, 1895 to April, 1897. The police award is presented annually to an officer who has overcome a handicap, as Theodore Roosevelt triumphed over the physical handicaps of his youth.
